Ultimate Hot Chocolate With Oat Milk

After seeing the recipe, the first thing you may wonder is why there is rum in this hot chocolate.

Well, don’t worry, you won’t taste any alcohol, the small amount of rum in your hot chocolate will intensify all of the flavors in it!

You will notice that we used oat milk as well. However, if you prefer one milk over another, feel free to choose the one you love.

Bon appétit!

We advise that you prepare all the above ingredients before starting.

You will typically need: a scale, measuring cups, and mixing bowls.

Ultimate Hot Chocolate

1 - Finely chop the milk chocolate and put it in a saucepan (or a saucier pan).

Tip: We recommend you use a Santoku knife for this task. We love Japanese knives and recommend this quality kit from GLOBAL for home and professional chefs. We also love this reversible cutting board with integrated hand grips from John Boos.

2 - Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Pour the oat milk on top of the milk chocolate and stir using a spatula until it comes to a simmer (or until it is fully melted in the milk).

3 - Add the water and the cocoa powder. Stir using a spatula and bring the preparation to a boil.

4 - Turn off the heat and add the salt, rum, vanilla paste, and heavy cream. Stir until everything is combined.

Tip: We store our spices and small quantities in these mini glass bowls from Duralex while cooking, and use this porcelain pitcher for liquids.

5 - Let the hot chocolate cool down for about 10 minutes before savoring or putting any topping on it.

6 - Finally, pour the hot chocolate into a mug and add some French meringue and caramel sauce on top. We love the elegant designs of these 3 different styles of mugs: crystal, copper, and assorted colors.

Tip: To do your own meringue, follow the steps in our dedicated recipe (but stop before the baking step). Otherwise, we recommend using marshmallow fluff.

7 - Enjoy!
