Spicy Kale Salad With Sesame Vinaigrette

This tasty salad is one of our favorite kale recipes and one of the most popular in our kitchen during summer. Just spicy enough, and with its amazing sesame vinaigrette, this healthy salad will surprise you and all the family!

What is sesame oil? Sesame oil is a cooking oil made from sesame seeds that is popular in Asian cooking. There are a few varieties made with pressed plain seeds or toasted seeds, and they are used in different ways. Light sesame oil is typically used as a neutral cooking oil, while toasted sesame oil is used as a flavoring in sauces, soups, vinaigrette, and other dishes.

Sesame Vinaigrette

½ tbsp (11g) - Dijon mustard

2 tbsp (25g) - Sesame oil

¼ cup (50g) - Grapeseed oil

½ tbsp (8g) - Balsamic vinegar

1 pinch - Sea salt

 

Spicy Kale Salad

1 - Red bell pepper

12 - Cherry tomatoes

1 - Avocado

2 oz (60g) - Kale 

To taste - Cayenne pepper

We advise that you prepare all the above ingredients before starting.

You will typically need: a scale, measuring cups, mixing bowls.


Sesame Vinaigrette

1 - Add the Dijon mustard and the sesame oil in a large mixing bowl. Then, emulsify with a silicone spatula until well combined. 

2 - Pour half of the grapeseed oil while mixing and emulsify until well combined. 

Tip: We store our spices and small quantities in these mini glass bowls from Duralex while cooking, and use this porcelain pitcher for liquids.

3 - Add the balsamic vinegar and the sea salt. Then, give it a quick mix with the spatula.

4 - Slowly pour the remaining grapeseed oil while mixing. 

Tip: For the perfect emulsion, you may also use a hand blender. Our must-have hand blender is the Braun Multiquick Technology.

5 - Transfer the sesame vinaigrette to a glass dispenser (or like us in a cute little ramekin) and set it aside.

 

Spicy Kale Salad

1 - Finely mince the red bell pepper using a sharp knife.

2 - Carefully wash the cherry tomatoes and cut them in half. Then, set them aside.

3 - Cut the avocado in half lengthwise and gently twist one half to open it. Then, carefully stick the knife into the pit and twist it to remove it. Finally, cut the avocado into quarters and peel the skin off with your hands.

4 - Dice ¾ of the avocado and finely slice the other ¼.

5 - Combine the kale, cherry tomatoes, minced red bell pepper, diced avocado, cayenne pepper, and 3 tablespoons of sesame vinaigrette into a large mixing bowl. Then, mix everything together using tongs

6 - Plate the salad and arrange the sliced avocado on top in a pretty manner.
